Hello Kearnan College Community!

As we approach the Easter season, we are invited to pause and reflect on its message of hope and renewal. Easter reminds us that even in times of challenge, goodness can emerge, and that love, compassion and forgiveness remain at the heart of our faith. May this time be one of peace, gratitude and hope for all those in our school community.

Yesterday, the College celebrated the Feast of St Joseph, one of our patron saints. St Joseph was the wife of Mary and the foster-father of Jesus and is known for his quiet strength, righteousness and humility. Staff and students participated in a liturgy, the Caritas Long Walk for Water, enjoyed a sausage sizzle lunch, and finished the day with a range of fun, interactive activities. Our older students were able to help our younger students and it was a great day of connection and community-building.

We have parent-teacher meetings coming up for all of our students from K-12. Our teachers are looking forward to meeting with you to continue our home-school partnership in support of our students. If any of the scheduled meeting dates do not suit you, I encourage you to contact your child’s teachers to arrange another time to meet.

Our primary school parent-teacher meetings begin next week on Monday, March 23. Our primary classes will finish at 12pm that day to allow teachers to be available for the meetings. Students not able to be collected at 12pm, will be supervised in the Library.

Our secondary school meetings will be held between 3.30pm and 7.00pm on Tuesday, April 28 or between 8.30am and 5.30pm on Tuesday, May 5. More information about how to sign up for these meetings will be sent out soon.

So that our secondary teachers are available to meet with as many parents as possible, we will be having a Learning from Home Day on Tuesday, May 5 for Years 7-12 (primary classes will be running as usual). Teachers will set learning tasks to be completed at home, so students are still expected to be learning. If your child is not able to remain at home on this day, they can attend school and will be supervised whilst they complete their set work.

This term, I have been so proud of the resilience and positivity our students continue to show, even when learning is challenging. I am grateful to our staff for their dedication and their care for our students and for the support and involvement of our parents.. Our continued partnerships help to make Kearnan College a strong, connected and nurturing community.

Celebrating Community, Faith and Service at Our College

The past few weeks have been a wonderful reflection of the strong community spirit, faith, and shared values that underpin life at our College. From celebrating student excellence, to gathering in faith, and coming together for our Feast Day, it has been a week full of connection and joy.

Good Standing Reward – Celebrating Excellence

As a College, we place great value on the way our students live out our expectations each day. In Week Five, all students were recognised for their commitment to maintaining Good Standing, demonstrating respect, responsibility and care for themselves and others.

To acknowledge this achievement, every student in the College was treated to an ice cream as a small but meaningful celebration of their consistent efforts. It was wonderful to see students enjoying this shared moment, and we commend them for the positive choices they continue to make that contribute to a calm, safe and supportive learning environment.

Year 11 and 12 Mass – Faith in Times of Uncertainty

All Year 11 and 12 students gathered in the Church this week to celebrate Mass, centred on the theme “Faith in Times of Uncertainty.” In a world where the news often reminds us of instability and challenge, this was a timely opportunity to pause, reflect and come together in faith.

The Mass reminded students of the importance of turning to Jesus as our guide during uncertain times — grounding ourselves in hope, compassion and trust. It was a meaningful moment for our senior students to reflect on their own journeys and the choices they face as they move forward.

This year, each year group will have one dedicated opportunity to gather in the Church to celebrate Mass. These occasions are an important part of our faith life, strengthening connections within year groups and deepening our shared Catholic identity.

The College community came together this week to celebrate our Feast Day – the Feast of St Joseph. The day began with students gathering in the Church, acknowledging St Joseph as a model of humility, service and quiet strength.

As part of our Feast Day celebrations, students participated in a Walk for Water in support of Caritas, raising awareness of the challenges faced by people around the world who do not have access to clean drinking water. This was a powerful reminder of our call to social justice and to stand in solidarity with those most in need.

Following this, the whole College gathered to share a meal together, enjoying a sausage sizzle and drink — a simple but meaningful expression of community. The afternoon session saw students actively involved in running a variety of stalls, bringing energy, creativity and fun to the day.

It was truly a fantastic day for our students, filled with faith, laughter and connection.

I sincerely thank all staff for their efforts and participation in making this day such a success. Without their generosity of time and support — along with the ongoing support of our families — events like this simply would not be possible. Together, we continue to build a strong, faith-filled community where our students can flourish.
