We have nearly made it to the end of a very long term. Our students are still showing how amazing they are, working hard and maintaining a positive attitude right through to these final weeks. It has been wonderful to see their persistence, enthusiasm and care for one another, both in the classroom and in the playground. 

Over the break we will see the construction of the shade in Early Childhood and a new cubbyhouse for our primary students. We thank everyone who supported the P&F Quiz Night, which has made this possible.

On Thursday the June 18, the Year 1/2 class along with Mr. Smith’s Outdoor Education class, went to build cubby houses.  

“Before lunch we changed into our old clothes and boots, we knew we would be playing in the water! We met Mr. Smith and his class outside the library and walked down to the Deanmill Track.  

Once we arrived, Mr. Smith showed us the areas that we could go into and to avoid the blackberry bushes… They were very spikey! We also set rules and got into small groups.  

Each group went to look for a good place to build a cubby. We worked with our team to collect sticks, branches and leaves and got to work. 

Some of us built teepee type cubbies and other groups used fallen trees as their main structure. Some groups even made bridges. We had to make sure they were very stable, so they wouldn’t fall down.

On Sunday 7 June, eleven students received the Eucharist for the first time. 

It was a beautiful Mass, celebrated by Father Joe, with acolytes Mr Fontanini and Mrs Ferreira. The celebration continued afterwards with our St Joseph’s Parish community, where the Catholic Women’s League decorated the parish hall and hosted a special celebration for the communicants. Mrs O’ Donnell created a beautiful cake for everyone to share.  

A sincere thank you to Mrs Harris and Mrs Kezich for their dedication in preparing the students, as well as to Mrs Wiseman for her creativity and Mrs Ramiro for her support. 

Congratulations to Evelyn Danti, Hendrix DeCampo, Nico Fitzgerald, Jules Markotis, Thomas McCarthy, Leo O’Donnell, Beau Pedlar, Emily Spillman, Riley Winters, Lily Winters and Bella Winters.

Congratulations to Jayne-Lexie Dovaston, who celebrated the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time on Friday. A sincere thank you to Mrs Kezich for the time, care and dedication she has given in preparing Jayne-Lexie for this special sacrament. Her support and guidance are greatly appreciated.

As promised, we are pleased to share some outstanding individual achievements from the Interschool Cross Country held on 5 June. 

Congratulations to Jude Brown and Mackenzie Watson, who both achieved Gold medals in the Year 4 Boys and Year 6 Girls events respectively, and to Ivy Doherty, who earned a Bronze medal in the Year 4 Girls event. 

These are fantastic achievements, and we are incredibly proud of all our runners who represented Kearnan with pride and determination.

Thank you to everyone who generously donated to the Student Council initiative this term. 

Ms Prestedge with the support of Mrs Harris coordinated the project, organising communication to families, arranging donation baskets in classrooms, and overseeing the collection of goods, which will be distributed to members of our local community in need. 

On Monday, these baskets were presented to representatives of St Vincent de Paul during a Student Council assembly.  

Our Beanie Day raised $120, which went towards vouchers to contribute to the Winter Appeal.

Next term, swimming lessons will take place during Weeks 7 and 8. 

The cost for lessons and bus transport is anticipated to be approximately $55, which is comparable to last year. Further information, including the schedule for your child’s lessons, will be provided early next term.

Pre-Primary reports will use the achievement descriptors Excellent, High, Satisfactory, Limited, and Very Low. Students in Years 1–6 will receive A–E grades for each curriculum area. 

Teachers have developed achievement statements for English and Mathematics, and students’ progress is assessed against these statements. Each report will also include a personalised end-of-semester summary comment.

This week, Ms Lynn and Mr Baine worked with our students on a range of garden projects. Students dug up, separated and replanted strawberry runners, propagated hydrangeas, and planted lettuce and spinach seeds. We are very grateful for the dedication of our groundskeepers, who support our students in caring for our school environment and learning about how things grow. 

On Thursday 19 June, our Year 4 class entertained us with a wonderful showcase of their talents and learning. Their presentation included The 1% Club, which highlighted their classroom learning, a musical performance, a dramatisation from their class novel, and much more. It was a fantastic opportunity for students to share their achievements and confidence with our school community. 

This morning, we held our final Merit Certificate Assembly for the term. During the assembly, we celebrated the efforts and achievements of students who have worked hard throughout the term, as well as those who have demonstrated our school values by being ready to learn, prepared, caring, and respectful. We were excited to recognise these students and congratulate them on their success. 

Our next Merit Certificate Assembly will be held at the end of Week 2 next term, on Friday 31 July.

Our Year 6 students recently partnered with their Year 1/2 buddies to explore the concept of a fair test through an engaging paper helicopter investigation. 

Working collaboratively, students learned the importance of changing only one variable at a time and carefully measuring the results. They then put their scientific thinking into action by designing helicopters that spun the fastest, fell the quickest, or displayed different flight patterns. It was wonderful to see our Year 6 students confidently guiding and encouraging their younger buddies, while the Year 1/2 students impressed everyone with their creativity and enthusiasm as they developed their own variables to test. 

The investigation provided a valuable opportunity for students to develop their understanding of scientific inquiry while building positive relationships across year levels. It was a fantastic session of hands-on learning, teamwork and discovery, with both classes thoroughly enjoying the experience.
