Catholic Identity

Our Catholic Identity is based on the teachings of Jesus and the traditions of the Catholic Church. Our goal is to form young people who are instilled with Christian values so they can engage with the world with a sense of purpose, have an understanding of social justice, display attitudes that are life-giving and can contribute positively to their communities.

Some key elements of Catholic Identity at Kearnan include:

• Curriculum: The school’s curriculum includes Religious Education as a learning area. Additionally, where applicable, teachers include Catholic perspectives in other learning areas, such as highlighting the importance of care of the natural environment or discussing social justice perspectives.
• Learning environment: The school’s learning climate is shaped by Catholic values and beliefs, where all students are given opportunities to use their gifts to reach their potential in a nurturing and respectful environment.
• Staff formation: The school’s staff are formed to support and teach Catholic values.
• Opportunities to pray and to serve: School staff and students regularly participate in prayer and liturgy and are offered opportunities to engage in service activities for the benefit of others.
• Community engagement: The school engages with the local community, including parents and the parish.
• School name: The College is named after its founding priest, Dr Kearnan, thereby preserving the historical connection to the Church.
