Pastoral Care Team

Pastoral Care Team

Kearnan College has a dedicated and empathetic pastoral care team who provide emotional, spiritual, and practical support to nurture the wellbeing of individuals and community.

Our team works closely with teachers, students, and families, ensuring the provision of evidence-based interventions that yield the best outcomes. We maintain strong connections within the community, partnering with mental health network providers and fostering a collaborative approach to ensure the highest level of care and support for our students.

Deputy Principal (Pastoral Care and Ministry)

Our Deputy Principal (Pastoral Care and Ministry) plays a vital role in promoting the mental and emotional health of students, helping them succeed academically, and providing a safe and supportive space for students to share their concerns and challenges.

Services available within the college:

  • Pre screening assessment
  • Referral pathways to external services where relevant
  • Collaborative case management with external agencies where relevant
  • Risk management
  • Holistic approach to student needs
  • Program delivery for wellbeing support to meet needs of community at the time
Heads of Year

Our Heads of Year play a pivotal role within the vertical pastoral care framework at Kearnan College. Their primary responsibility is to nurture the wellbeing and manage the behaviour of all students residing in the designated year group. They are entrusted with creating a secure, inclusive, and nurturing atmosphere that fosters the growth and personal development of these students. Building positive and meaningful connections with both students and their families, as well as collaborating effectively with colleagues, is a fundamental component of their role.

Learning Diversity Coordinator

Kearnan’s Learning Diversity Coordinator is responsible for supporting staff to cater to the diverse needs of students at the College. They may facilitate case conferences, assist staff with writing learning plans for individual students, support our Education Assistants and be a point of contact for parents of students with diverse needs.

On-Campus GP Visits

Dr Sarah Youngson and Dr Robyn McIntrye visit our College fortnightly (alternate weeks) to support our Pastoral Care team. This allows referrals to be made quickly and assists our school community to access health professionals with expertise in mental health in a timely, regular manner.
